Glenn Campbell
I'm Glenn Campbell, Political Editor at BBC Scotland, husband, father, journalist and increasingly determined hillwalker.
In 2023, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. A diagnosis like that changes your perspective. It forces you to confront uncertainty, but it also brings the things that matter most into sharper focus: family, friendship, time, purpose and the value of making every day count.
For me, that has meant heading for the hills.
The challenge
Scotland has 282 Munros: mountains with a summit of more than 3,000 feet. My goal is to climb every one of them.
This website records that journey, one mountain at a time. It tracks the Munros I have climbed, the miles covered, the people who have joined me and the inevitable Scottish weather encountered along the way.
The challenge is physical, but it is about much more than reaching summits. It is a way of showing that life after a brain tumour diagnosis can still be ambitious, active and full of possibility. There will be difficult days, changes of plan and mountains that feel harder than others. The important thing is to keep moving forward.
Why Brainpower?
I am undertaking the Munro challenge in support of Brainpower, raising awareness and funds to help improve the lives of people affected by brain tumours.
Brain tumours can affect anyone. Their impact extends far beyond the person receiving the diagnosis, touching partners, children, families, friends and colleagues.
Greater awareness matters. Better support matters. Research matters. Giving people living with a brain tumour hope, confidence and a sense that they are not facing it alone matters enormously.
By sharing my progress, I hope to encourage more people to understand the challenges faced by those affected by brain tumours and to support the work being done to help them.
One mountain at a time
Completing all 282 Munros will not happen quickly. That is part of the point. Every climb is its own challenge. Every summit is progress. Every person who walks alongside me, shares the story or makes a donation becomes part of the journey.
You can follow my progress through this website and support Brainpower by donating through my JustGiving page.
Every contribution, however large or small, helps raise awareness and support people affected by brain tumours.
The mountains offer perspective, friendship, freedom and a reminder that the next step is often the only one you need to think about. There is a long way to go, but the direction is clear.
One step, one summit and one Munro at a time.
